Retirement allows time to indulge in interests or expand horizons. Melbourn and District u3a was formed by a few local retired people in 1994 and today has 400 members. Our u3a is an umbrella for 30 groups covering art, music, languages or history together with leisure activities such as yoga and walking. You are welcome to use our website (melbu3a.org) to contact any group of interest to you.

Our interest groups are informal and self-help in nature and less commonly they are 'teacher' led. In some groups members share the role eg to develop understanding or to lead a walk. A group leader is anyway often a member of other groups. You will be welcomed regardless of experience or knowledge. We encourage and support new groups that engage our members. Our groups are self-funding so there may be a small fee to cover tea or room hire.

Meetings are held in the daytime. Face-to-face meeting is fully back and some of our activities take place via Zoom. We hold a local monthly meeting, with a guest speaker and we also broadcast this via Zoom where possible. There is no meeting in December. We will send you a monthly email with all the details together with opportunities to sign up for learning programmes - indeed as much as we can find.

Melbourn & District u3a (formerly “university of the third age”) is affiliated to a national organisation called the Third Age Trust. The Trust is a registered charity and a conduit for an exchange of ideas between other u3a. Our subscription includes an amount due to the Trust.

Everyone who is no longer in full time employment is welcome to join. A list of groups is nearby and our website has contact details for each group's leader. You may decide to join one or more of them or just attend our monthly meeting.
